At the moment, the main focus of the Altenstadt combined heat and power plant is on the production of electricity. The combination of fluidised bed combustion and high-efficiency turbo-generator is regarded an ideal solution to produce base-load electricity for some 25,000 households in an environmentally friendly and efficient manner.

The possibility to extract heat from the process steam/water cycle is currently being investigated to even further improve the power plant’s overall efficiency.
